POSITION SUMMARY
The primary function of this position is to promote the venues, events, programs, and quality of life services of the Community and Leisure Services Division, in an effort to generate increased revenue, awareness, and buy-in from the community, businesses, potential visitors, and rental clients. This position will oversee the division’s marketing efforts to develop strategic campaigns necessary to secure financial, trade, and in-kind sponsorships, and to position, communicate, and enhance the division’s services and its role in establishing Columbia County as a thriving destination in which to live, work, recreate, and visit.

The incumbent must be self-motivated, conscientious, and organized; must have supervisory experience plus budgetary knowledge. This person must also have experience in public relations, marketing, and program skills. This person must exercise independent judgment and ingenuity in accomplishing program objectives and interpreting the needs and desires of customers and clients.

Work is performed standing, stooping, sitting, bending, walking, crouching, lifting and moving objects weighing more than 20 pounds. Work is usually performed indoors and occasionally outdoors. The incumbent may be periodically exposed to dirt, noise, grease, and machinery with moving parts.

Bachelor’s degree required in business administration, marketing, communications, public relations, or related field from an accredited four year college or university and a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in a related professional setting. Supervisory experience preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license.

NATURE AND SCOPE
Successful performance in this position is required to effectively promote the division’s services to generate revenue from sponsorships, rentals, event ticket sales, program registration, and visitor spending. The position is a direct report to the Community and Leisure Services Division Director and will supervise the full-time Marketing Manager as well as any part time staff and/or interns related to marketing and promotional efforts. The position will oversee the allocated budgeted funds for promotions and marketing for the division, and collaborates and consults with department managers in efficiently utilizing their department’s budgeted marketing/advertising funds.

Internal contacts are typically with the CVB Executive Director, Public Relations Manager, Community Events Manager, Parks and Recreation Manager, Rental Facilities and Venues Manager, as well as other department managers. External contacts include the media, businesses, community organizations, event organizers, promoters, and vendors.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Oversee day to day operations of the Promotions, Sales, and Marketing efforts of the Community and Leisure Services Division.

Media Relations: division-wide media/advertising purchasing for events and programs; negotiates trade partnerships; cultivates media relationships; serves as media point of contact during events.

Business Relations: develops and cultivates relationships with area businesses; solicits sponsorship leads of events, venues, and programs; collaborates with respective department managers on sponsorship negotiations, agreements, and implementation; assists with vendor cultivation and communication

Sports Sales: works with the CVB and respective CLS department managers to recruit national, regional, and state sporting events to Columbia County to be hosted at venues within the division; represents CLS division at trade shows; assists in contract development for awarded events; works with organizers on promotional efforts for their event

Communications: assists department managers in writing press releases in coordination with Public Relations Manager; assists in the development and distribution of post-event reports to internal and external stakeholders

Works closely with the Community Events Manger to recruit and promote concerts and festivals to Columbia County venues. Works with outside concert and festival promoters who rent venues on promotional strategies to enhance visibility and attract visitors

Creates and oversees website, activity guide, and social media content for the CLS division

Consults with CLS department managers to develop specialized promotions for their projects; works with Facilities and Venues Manager on promotional strategies to increase sales revenue for Savannah Rapids Pavilion and CC Exhibition Center; works with Parks & Recreation Manager to maximize use of county parks and athletic venues

Assists the Division Director on developing monthly and annual reports for the division

Assists the Division Director in representing the division on networking obligations and outreach opportunities.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

COMPENSATION
Starting salary $65,000 with additional vehicle and cell phone allowances
