2016-2017 Winter Weather Outlook for the South!

Post Date:12/08/2016 1:37 PM

According to forecasters at the NOAA Climate Prediction Center, La Nina is expected to influence winter conditions this year – and La Nina favors drier, warmer winters in the southern U.S and wetter, cooler conditions in the northern U.S.

So, if you like the “white stuff” and freezing temperatures, you may have to travel north to find it. But as Mike Halpert, deputy director of NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center emphasizes, “Regardless of the outlook, there is always some chance for extreme winter weather, so prepare now for what might come later this winter.”

We completely agree. Forecasting winter weather is very difficult, so be prepared. Columbia County Emergency Services recommends that everyone use the information provided during "Winter Weather Preparedness Week" held December 5 - 9 and make sure your family is prepared for the worst this winter - just in case.
