Columbia County to Hold Full-Scale Hurricane Exercise in Late March
In Coordination with the Georgia National Guard’s “Vigilant Guard”

Columbia County is one of several across the State of Georgia that is participating in a Full-Scale Hurricane Exercise in late March along with the “Vigilant Guard,” which is comprised of National Guard troops who come together to provide resources, equipment, supplies and manpower following a disaster. The exercise hurricane is named “Hurricane Alan.”

We have 16 disciplines participating to test 12 of the 15 Emergency Support Functions in the Columbia County Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), which is huge. It’s all part of being prepared and training together for the community.

More on this later since there will be a lot of activity around the area on the day of the exercise. We want the public to know what all we will be training and testing on the day of the exercise.

Below is a photo of the two-day statewide exercise planning meeting recently held in Savannah and attended by our staff.
