Columbia County operates a CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Station)
and provides data corrections via IP for GNSS data.

In 2015, Columbia County's Reference Station became a component of Trimble's VRS Network.

Early collection methods included the TSC1/ProXH units starting in 1998.  Currently the county uses the Trimble Geo7x units with either ArcPad or TerraSync.  The county also utilizes TSC2/R6 survey units.

The Continuously Operating Reference Station was upgraded to a Trimble NetR9 with a Zephyr GNSS Geodetic II Antenna in August 2011.  This reference station collects and broadcasts data from GPS and GLONASS constellations.  Data is also available for download from the National Geodetic Survey's CORS website.  The data is broadcast in CMR+, RTCM V2/DGPS, and RTCM V3. This functionality improves efficiency and accuracy of data collection and survey applications.  Click here to open the Trimble PDF Data Sheet.  Please send an email to one of the contacts at the bottom of the page if you are interested in this service.

What is CORS?

The National Geodetic Survey (NGS), an office of NOAA's National Ocean Service, coordinates two networks of continuously operating reference stations (CORS): the National CORS network and the Cooperative CORS network.  Each CORS site provides Global Positioning System (GPS) carrier phase and code range measurements in support of 3-dimensional positioning activities throughout the United States and its territories.

Surveyors, GIS professionals, engineers, scientists, and other users can apply CORS data to position points at which GPS data have been collected.  The CORS system enables positioning accuracies that approach a few centimeters relative to the National Spatial Reference System, both horizontally and vertically.
