Waste Water Treatment

A Department of the Water Utility Division

The Wastewater Department is charged with protecting all downstream users of waters that pass through or originate in Columbia County.  Technology has improved greatly over the last 100 years and because of that, we can remove upward of 99.5% of pollutants that arrive at the treatment facilities from the conveyance system.

Any questions concerning Wastewater Treatment can be e-mailed to the Asst. Manager Matthew Gibbs.  Plant tours are available by appointment by calling 706-860-2587.

As a department, we stand entrenched on the front line of water quality protection for the citizens of Columbia County and all downstream users.  Although the amazement of the feat of the first moon landing has diminished in society as a whole, this department's fundamental philosophy is about latching on to the type of inspiration that fueled man's greatest engineering achievement, landing a man on the moon, and returning him safely to earth.

"We choose to go to the moon ... and ... other things, not because they are easy - but because they are hard!  Because that challenge is one we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone and one we intend to win!"

John F. Kennedy  (Speech at Rice University - September 12, 1962)
