The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens to be on alert against fraudulent phone calls. A known nationwide scam has been targeting our area. Citizens are receiving phone calls from persons claiming to be employees of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. The subjects claim that the citizen has missed Grand Jury and there is an active warrant for his or her arrest. The warrant can be cleared if the citizen pays a fine using prepaid "Greendot" money cards. If you have questions about someone claiming to represent the Columbia County Sheriff's Office please contact dispatch at 706-541-2800. No law enforcement agency or court will accept Western Union payments or "Greendot" cards to clear up any matter.
