When to Apply

Licenses are issued Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Requirements

In order to apply for a Georgia Weapons Carry License you must:

  • Be a resident of Columbia County
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • If you have completed basic training in the armed forces and can provide proof that he or she is actively serving or has been honorable discharged from the armed forces you may apply between the ages of 18 to 21.

Applications for Weapons Carry License can be started online via the Georgia Probate Records website for a quicker application process than in-office. When you come into the office, you must bring your ID with your current Columbia County address.

What to Bring

Things you will need to bring:

  • Georgia license showing your current Columbia County address. If you have a P.O. Box on your license, you must provide a utility bill with your street address
  • $78.25 in cash, money order, or Master Card/Visa (with a convenience fee)

If you are Military:

  • You will need to bring a picture ID
  • A Utility bill with your current address
  • Orders showing that you are stationed in Georgia

Renewals

To renew your Weapons Carry License (WCL):

  • Georgia license showing your current Columbia County address - if you have a P.O. Box on your license, you must provide a utility bill with your street address
  • You will need your old WCL
  • The cost is $30 in cash, money order, or Master Card/Visa (with a convenience fee)

A renewal on a Georgia Weapons Carry License may be done 90 days prior to or within 30 days after expiration date.
