How to Apply

Applications for Weapons Carry License can be started online via the Georgia Probate Records website for a quicker application process than in-office. When you come into the office, you must bring your ID with your current Columbia County address.

When to Apply

Licenses are issued Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Requirements

In order to apply for a Georgia Weapons Carry License you must:

• Be a resident of Columbia County
• Be at least 21 years of age
• If you have completed basic training in the armed forces and can provide proof that you are actively serving or have been honorable discharged from the armed forces, you may apply between the ages of 18 to 21.

What to Bring

Things you will need to bring:

• Georgia license showing your current Columbia County address. If you have a P.O. Box on your license, you must provide a utility bill with your street address.
• $77 in cash, money order, or credit card (with a convenience fee). Please note we do not accept tap payments.

If you do not have a Georgia license showing your current Columbia County address and are Military:

• You will need to bring a picture ID
• A utility bill with your current address
• Orders showing that you are stationed in Georgia

Renewals

To renew your Weapons Carry License (WCL):

• Georgia license showing your current Columbia County address (if you have a P.O. Box on your license, you must provide a utility bill with your street address).
• $30 in cash, money order, or credit card (with a convenience fee). Please note we do not accept tap payments.
• You will need your old WCL

If you do not have a Georgia license showing your current Columbia County address and are Military:

• You will need to bring a picture ID
• A utility bill with your current address
• Orders showing that you are stationed in Georgia

A renewal on a Georgia Weapons Carry License may be done 90 days prior to or within 30 days after expiration date.
